Simple and Quick Baby Beanie

A very simple and quick 0-3 months baby beanie, done all in half double crochet, with a simple single crochet band.  Worked in the round, so the beanie is seamless.

Abbreviations:  sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; beg = beginning; ch = chain; rep = Repeat

Gauge:  10 sts and 13 rows on hdc with 4.5mm hook

Materials:  About a third to half a skein of Worsted Weight (aran/10ply) yarn; 4.5mm hook; yarn needle.

Pattern:

Row One:  Make a magic ring, ch 2, make 8 hdc into the ring; (Alternatively, chain 4, sl st into 1st chain to make a ring, ch 2, make 8 hdc into the ring); do not join, place a stitch marker and carry on working into beginning hdc. (8 hdc)

Row Two:  Work 2 hdc into each stitch around.  (16)

Row Three:  Place a stitch marker, using either a standard marker or a piece of contrasting yarn, whichever helps you to remember which is the starting stitch.  Work *2 hdc into next stitch, 1 hdc into next*; repeat around.  (24).

Row Four:  Move the marker up a row to keep track of the beginning stitch.  Work *2 hdc in next stitch, 1 hdc into next 2 sts*; Repeat around.  (32).

Row Five: Move marker; hdc around.

Continuing to keep track  of the beginning stitch to keep count, repeat Row Five until beanie measures 5” from the crown.

Next:  Sc into next st and around to end for the next 3 rows.

Slip stitch into next st, Fasten off, and weave in ends invisibly.

Enjoy your new baby beanie!
