A pretty little lacy hat, which can be made up very quickly and easily for that last minute gift. With the easiest ever bow this hat is not just fast but very simple.
To fit 0-3 months; 3-6 months
Materials: 1 skein worsted weight yarn in Colour A; Oddments in Colour B; 4mm hook; 4.5mm hook; yarn needle.
Abbreviations: sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet; hdc = half double crochet; sk = skip; ch = chain; rep = repeat; beg = beginning; sl st = slip stitch.
Gauge: 14 sts and 10 rows hdc on 4mm = 4”
Pattern is written in US terms; a conversion chart is included.
Size 0-3 months; Use 4mm hook
Size 3-6 months; Use 4.5mm hook
Row 1: With Colour A and hook required for size; make a magic ring, Ch2, make 8 hdc into ring. Sl st to beg hdc. (8)
Row 2: Ch2, 2 hdc in same; 2 hdc in every stitch around; sl st to beg hdc. (16)
Row 3: Ch2, hdc in same, 2 hdc in next; *hdc in next; 2 hdc in next*; rep to end; sl st to beg hdc. (24)
Row 4: Ch2, hdc in same, 1 hdc in next; 2 hdc in next st; *hdc in next 2 sts; 2 hdc in next st*; rep to end; sl st to beg hdc. (32)
Row 5: Ch2, hdc in same, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; 2 hdc in next st; *hdc in next 3 sts; 2 hdc in next st*; rep to end; sl st to beg hdc. (40)
Row 6: Ch3, (dc, ch1, 2dc) in same st; ch1, sk3, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) into next st, ch1, sk3*; rep to end, sl st to top of ch3. (10 "V"s)
Row 7: Sl st into “V” space; Ch3, (dc, ch1, 2dc) in same st; ch1, *sk to next “V” space, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) into next “V”, ch1*; rep from * to * to end; sl st to top of beg ch3.
Rep Row 7 to 4.5" (5.5”)
Change to Colour B

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Easiest ever bow:
Row 1: Chain 9; Sc in 2nd and next 6; 3 sc in next st; then working on the other side of the starting chain; sc in next 6; 2 sc in next, join to beg sc.
Row 2: Ch1; sc in same and next 7 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts; sc in next 7 sts, 2sc in next 2 sts; sl st to beg sc.
Fasten off invisibly.
With contrasting colour, wrap yarn around the centre of the bow a few times to make a bow shape – pull fairly tightly, arranging the bow as desired, tie yarn in a knot behind the bow and attach the bow to the hat.
