Justa Beanie ~ The Set

Justa Beanie!  In all sizes, from Newborn through to Adult.

One for the whole family!   Play around, try them in all different colours!  Try them plain with no fold up band, or with a deep band.  The choice is yours!

    

Materials: 1 skein worsted weight (aran/10ply) in each of two colours, Colour A and Colour B; 4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm, 5.5mm hooks; yarn needle.

Abbreviations: sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; beg = beginning; rep = repeat.

Gauge: 19 sts and 14 rows hdc on 4.5mm = 4" 


Sizing:  Newborn to Adult
0-3 months         Circumference 12”-14”                Length 5.5”
3-6 months         Circumference 14”-16”                 Length 6”
6-12 months      Circumference 16”-17”                Length 6.5”

You will also need, to complete all the hats, crochet hooks as follows:

0-3 months         4mm  
3-6 months         4.5mm  
6-12 months      5mm  
1-3 years             4.5mm

Teens                   4.5mm
Adult Women   5mm
Adult Men         5.5mm

Pattern:

0-3 months:




Row 1: With 4mm hook and Colour A, make a magic ring and start to work 8 hdc into the ring. Work 1 hdc in Colour A, then attach Colour B, and make the next hdc with Colour B. Switch back to Colour A then B for each alternate stitch around. You don’t need to slip stitch to the beg hdc – just place a stitch marker and keep going around. (8)

Row 2: Alternating colours every stitch, work 2 hdc into every stitch around. (16)

Row 3: Still alternating colours every stitch, work *1 hdc into the next st, and 2hdc into the next stitch.* Rep from * to * to end. (24)

Row 4: Still alternating colours, work *1 hdc into the next 2 sts, and 2hdc into the next stitch.* Rep from * to * around. (32)

Row 5: Still alternating colours, work *1 hdc into the next 3 sts, and 2 hdc into the next stitch*. Rep from * to * around. (40)

You can now work one colour at a time, alternating them on each row instead of each stitch.

Row 6: With Colour B, hdc into each stitch around. Change to Colour A on the last stitch.

Row 7: With Colour A, hdc into each stitch around. Change to Colour B on the last stitch.

Repeat Rows 6 and 7 until hat measures 5”.

Next Row: Drop Colour B and using Colour A, Ch1, sc around to end.

Continue to work each row in the same colour, in single crochet only for 2 more rounds, or until you reach your desired length.  (Work extra rows here if you want a deep turn up band)

Finish off with one more row of single crochet in contrasting colour.


3-6 months:


Row 1: With 4.5mm hook and Colour A, make a magic ring and start to work 8 hdc into the ring. Work 1 hdc in Colour A, then attach Colour B, and make the next hdc with Colour B. Switch back to Colour A then B for each alternate stitch around. You don’t need to slip stitch to the beg hdc – just place a stitch marker and keep going around. (8)

Row 1: With 5mm hook and Colour A, make a magic ring and start to work 7 hdc into the ring. Work 1 hdc in Colour A, then attach Colour B, and make the next hdc with Colour B. Switch back to Colour A then B for each alternate stitch around. You don’t need to slip stitch to the beg hdc – just place a stitch marker and keep going around. (7)

Row 2: Alternating colours every stitch, work 2 hdc into every stitch around. (14)

Row 3: Still alternating colours every stitch, work *1 hdc into the next st, and 2hdc into the next stitch.* Rep from * to * to end. (21)

Row 4: Still alternating colours, work *1 hdc into the next 2 sts, and 2hdc into the next stitch.* Rep from * to * around. (28)

Row 5: Still alternating colours, work *1 hdc into the next 3 sts, and 2 hdc into the next stitch*. Rep from * to * around. (35)

Row 6: Still alternating colours, work *1 hdc into the next 4 sts, and 2 hdc into the next stitch*. Rep from * to * around. (42).

You can now work one colour at a time, alternating them on each row instead of each stitch.

Row 7: With Colour B, hdc into each stitch around. Change to Colour A on the last stitch.

Row 8: With Colour A, hdc into each stitch around. Change to Colour B on the last stitch.

Repeat Rows 7 and 8 until hat measures 6”.

Next Row: Drop Colour B and using Colour A, Ch1, sc around to end.

Continue to work each row in the same colour, in single crochet only for 3 more rounds, or until you reach your desired length.  (Work extra rows here if you want a deep turn up band)

Finish off with one more row of single crochet in contrasting colour.


1-3 years:

You can now work one colour at a time, alternating them on each row instead of each stitch.

Row 8: With Colour B, hdc into each stitch around. Change to Colour A on the last stitch.

Row 9: With Colour A, hdc into each stitch around. Change to Colour B on the last stitch.

Repeat Rows 8 and 9 until hat measures 7”.

Next Row: Drop Colour B and using Colour A, Ch1, sc around to end.

Continue to work each row in the same colour, in single crochet only for 4 more rounds, or until you reach your desired length.  (Work extra rows here if you want a deep turn up band)

Finish off with one more row of single crochet in contrasting colour.


Teens:
