These little “tubs” make great covers for storage or serving pots.
Maybe for your desk, for paper clips, or stitch markers; or even for when visitors come and you want to serve some peanuts or small snacks.
They are the perfect size to go around a 200g yoghurt pot or a ramekin dish, and will look really pretty on the coffee table.
You could even use them to gift your holiday home made candy!
Very easily and quickly made, you could make a set of them in a couple of evenings.
Materials: 1 skein worsted weight yarn in Colour A (Red); 1 skein worsted weight yarn in Colour B (White); a 5mm hook, a yarn needle for sewing in ends.
Abbreviations: sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; fpdc = front post double crochet; beg = beginning; sl st = slip stitch
Gauge: 14 sts and 12 row fpdc on 5mm hook = 4”
Pattern is written in US terms, a conversion chart is included.
The pattern is worked with two strands of yarn carried along together, alternating colours on each stitch.
Row 1: With Colour A (Red), make a magic ring, and work 11 dc into the ring, sl st to beg dc to join. (11)
Row 2: ch2, work 2hdc into every stitch around, sl st to beg hdc to join. (22)
Row 3: ch2, hdc into same st; 2 hdc into next st; *1 hdc into next st; 2 hdc into next st*; rep from * to* around, sl st to beg hdc to join. (33)
Row 4: ch2, hdc into same st; 2 hdc into next st; *1 hdc into next 2 sts; 2 hdc into next st*; rep from * to * around, sl st to beg hdc to join. (44)
Row 5: Ch1, fpdc into same st as ch1; join Colour B (White), fpdc into next st with Colour B; *Switch back to Colour A; fpdc into next st; Switch to Colour B; fpdc into next st*; rep around, alternating colours and working fpdc into every stitch around. Don’t bother joining the round, just carry on working around alternating colours, but making sure that you keep working Colour A into a Colour B fpdc, and vice versa, to keep the colours staggered.
So, if Row one is A,B,A,B etc., row 2 will be B, A, B, A, etc.
Continue working in this manner, fpdc into every stitch for 7 rows of alternating colours.
Finish the last row with a sc in the 1st colour, a sc in the 2nd colour, then a slip st in the 1st colour and a sl st in the 2nd colour.
Next Row: ch1 in White, work sc around only in white for this row, sl st to beg sc, and fasten off white.
Next Row: ch1 with Red, work a row of reverse single crochet around the rim of the bowl. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Your bowl is now ready for your container, and to use as you wish.
