Newborn Vs and 3s



Newborn V’s and 3s

A very simple but pretty little hat that works up very quickly

Pattern is written in US terms; a conversion chart is included at the end.

Materials:  1 skein worsted weight yarn; 4.5mm hook, yarn needle for tidying ends.

Abbreviations: 
Sc – single crochet; dc – double crochet; ch – chain; rep – repeat; sk – skip; sp – space


Size:  Newborn

Row 1: With 4.5mm hook, make a magic ring, ch2, 8 dc into ring, sl st to beg ch 2 (8)

Row 2:  Ch 2, dc in same , 2 dc in next and every stitch to end, sl st to beg ch 2 (16)

Row 3: Ch 2, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next*; rep from * to * around, sl st to beg ch 2 (24)

Row 4:  Ch 4, 1dc in same st; * sk 1 st, (dc, ch 1 dc) in next st *; rep from * to * to end, sl st to beg ch4 (12 “V”s, 36 sts total)

Row 5:  Ch 3, 2 dc in same “V” space; 3 dc in next “V” space and in every “V” space around, sl st to beg ch3 (36)

Row 6:  Sl st to centre dc of 3dc cluster, ch 4, 1 dc in same st, (dc, ch1, dc) in centre  dc of next and every 3dc cluster around (12 “V”s), sl st to beg ch4.

Repeat rows 5 and 6 until hat measures  5.5”.  Ch 1, sc in every stitch around (36)

Final row:  ch 1, sc in same st, ch3,* sc in next st, ch3* in every st around,  sl st to beg sc.  Fasten off and tidy up ends.
