Sarah Jane Lacy Dress



  
Pattern is written in US terms; a conversion chart is included at the end.


Materials Just over 1 skein worsted weight (aran/10ply) yarn; 5mm crochet hook; Ribbon; 6 small matching buttons; Yarn needle for sewing up ends; Sewing needle and pink thread if you want to sew up the ends of the ribbon at the back

Measurements
Chest 20” – 22”’; Armhole opening 4”; Neck width 4”; Length from shoulder to hem 14.5” (you can adjust this to whatever length you need).

Approx age 6-12 months

Abbreviations: sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet; sk = skip; sl st = slip stitch; beg = beginning; ch = chain; sp = space; rep = repeat


Pattern:

Row One: With 5mm hook, work a double crochet foundation chain of 41 sts.  If you prefer to work a normal chain, work a chain of 43 then double crochet into the 3rd stitch from the hook and to the end, 

Row Two:  Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 3, 2 dc in next*, rep from * to * to the end (52 sts), turn.

Row Three:  Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 4, 2 dc in next*, rep from * to * to the end (62 sts), turn.

Row Four: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 5, 2dc in next*, rep from * to * to end (72 sts), turn.

Row Five: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 6, 2 dc in next*, rep from * to * to end, (82sts).  Turn.

Row Six: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 7, 2 dc in next*, rep from * to * to end, (92sts).  Turn.

Row Seven: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 8, 2 dc in next*, rep from * to * to end, (102 sts).  Turn.

Row Eight: Ch 3, 2dc in same st, (sk 1 sp, 3dc in next sp) 7 times.  Skip the next 21 sts, 3dc in next, (sk 1, 3dc in next), 14 times, sk 21 sts, 3dc in next, *sk 1, 3dc in next* 7 times, sl st to beg 3ch of this row to join.

Row Nine:  sl st to centre dc of cluster of 3, ch 4, dc in same, *(dc, ch1, dc) in centre of next cluster of 3 dcs*, repeat 6 times, (dc, ch1, dc) into armhole space,  *(dc, ch1, dc) into centre st of next cluster of 3 dc*, rep 14 times, (dc, ch1, dc) into armhole space,  *(dc, ch1, dc) into centre st of next cluster of 3 dc*, rep 7 times, sl st to beg ch4.

Row Ten:  Ch 3, 2 dc in next “V” space, *3dc in next “V” space*, rep all around.

Row Eleven: sl st to centre st of cluster of 3 dc, ch 4, dc in same, *(dc, ch1, dc) in next centre st of cluster of 3*, rep to end, sl st to beg ch 3.

Repeat Rows Ten and Eleven until dress measures 13” from shoulder, or to desired length.


Edging:

Sl st to the centre dc of the next cluster of 3, *ch3, sc in space between clusters, ch 3, sc in centre dc of cluster of 3*, repeat to end, sl st to beg ch3 loop.

Next Row:  *ch 2, sc into the 1st ch (to make a picot), ch 1, sc into the next ch3 loop*, repeat to end, sl st to beg sc; fasten off and tidy up ends.

Sleeves:

Attach yarn to centre bottom of armhole, sc in same st, ch 3, sc into the side of the dc from the row below, *ch 3, sc into next space*, rep 21 times, ch3, sc into the side of the dc from the row below, ch 3, sl st to beg sc (25 ch3 loops).
*ch 2, sc into the 1st ch (to make a picot), ch 1, sc into the next ch3 loop*, repeat to end, sl st to beg sc; Fasten off.

Repeat for the other sleeve.

Neckline:

Attach yarn to the bottom of the left side of the back opening, sc to the top, work 2 sc into the corner st, turn.

*Ch 3, sk 1, sc into next sc*, all around the neckline, including the other side of the back opening.  Sl st to the bottom of the opening and turn.

*ch 2, sc into the 1st ch (to make a picot), ch 1, sc into the next ch3 loop*, repeat to end, sl st to beg sc;  Fasten off.

Sew 3 buttons, evenly spaced onto the right back, to match where there are gaps in the left hand side that you will use as buttonholes.

Thread ribbon through neckline, using a sewing needle and thread to bind off the ends at the edges of the back opening.

Thread ribbon through under the armholes, tie in a bow at the front.  Sew on 3 buttons to the bodice, as in the picture.

Tidy up your ends, and your lovely new baby dress is complete!
