MATERIALS: 1 Skein Worsted Weight yarn (I used Creative Cotton Print aran in Colour “Partie”); G/4mm hook; yarn needle; 1 yard ribbon.
Gauge: 16 sts and 10 rows hdc on 4mm hook = 4”
Abbreviations: sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; beg = beginning; rep = repeat; sk = skip.
Pattern is written in US terms, a conversion chart is included at the end.
Row 1: With 4mm hook, make a magic ring; ch1; work 8 hdc into ring; sl st to beg hdc. (8)
Row 2: Ch1, 2 hdc in same st as ch1, 2 hdc in each st around. sl st to beg hdc. (16)
Row 3: Ch1, hdc in same st as ch1; *2 hdc in next st; hdc in next st*; rep from * to * to last st; 2 hdc in last st; sl st to beg hdc. (24)
Row 4: Ch1, hdc in same st as ch1; hdc in next st; *2 hdc in next st; hdc in next 2 sts*; rep from * to * to last st; 2 hdc in last st; sl st to beg hdc. (32)
Row 5: Ch1, hdc in same st as Ch1, hdc in next 2 sts; *2 hdc in next st; hdc in next 3 sts*; rep to last st; 2 hdc in last st; sl st to beg hdc. (40)
Row 6: Ch3; dc in same st; *sk 1 st; 2 dc in next st*; rep to last st; sk last st; sl st to top chain of beg ch3. (20 “V”s)
Row 7: Ch1, sc in “V” space directly next to beg ch1; *ch2; sc in next “V” space*; rep from * to * to last “V” space; TURN.
Row 8: Ch3; 3dc into ch2 space and each ch2 space to end; dc in top of sc from previous row. (19 x 3dc clusters + ch3 at the beginning and 1 dc at the end). TURN.
Row 9: Ch3; sk 1 st dc of 3dc cluster; *2dc in centre dc of 3 dc cluster; sk2 sts*; rep to end; dc in top of ch3 from previous row. TURN.
Row 10: Ch1, sc in same st; *ch2; sc in space between “V”s from prev row*; rep from * to * to last “V”; ch2, sc in space following the last “V”; sc in top of ch3 from prev row. TURN.
Row 11: Ch3; *sk sc; 3dc in ch2 space*; rep from * to * to end; dc in top of sc from prev row. TURN.
Row 12: Rep Row 9
Row 13: Rep Row 10
Row 14: Rep Row 11
Row 15: Rep Row 9 DO NOT TURN
Row 16: Ch1, sc 12 sts evenly down back side of bonnet; sc2 tog in the centre back 2 sts; sc 12 sts evenly up other side of back of bonnet. DO NOT TURN. Ch1, sc in same corner st, sc in each stitch around front edge of bonnet. ch1, sl st to beg sc. DO NOT TURN.
Row 17: Ch1, sc evenly again around back edge of bonnet, working 3sc in centre back sts. When you reach the front edge of the bonnet again, ch1, sc in same st. *Skip 1 st, work (dc, hdc, ch1, sc) into next st*; rep from * to * to end of front edge, sc in last st, ch1, sc in same corner st; sl st to beg sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Thread a pretty ribbon through the spaces between the “V”s of row 15 and your bonnet is complete!
