2015 CWU & AC Mystery CAL: The Border Stitches

Congratulations - you made it this far! :)  Now it’s time to finish off this beauty with a pretty little border.


Instructions are in US terms; a conversion chart is included at the end.


Abbreviations:  sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; st/s = stitch/es; beg = beginning; rep = repeat; sk = skip


Instructions:  


Row 1:  With a new colour and 5 mm (H/8) hook, attach yarn in any corner space.  Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), (2 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc) in corner space.  (sk 2, *3 hdc in next st; sk2; * rep from * to next corner (3 hdc, ch2, 3 hdc) in corner space) three times; sk 2, *3 hdc in next st; sk2; * rep from * to end; sl st to top of beg ch2.


(39 x 3 hdc clusters along each long side; 31 x 3 hdc clusters along each short side, 4 x ch2 spaces).

Change colour.


Row 2:  Attach yarn to corner space; Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), (hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) in corner space; skip 3hdc cluster; *2hdc in next sp; ch1; skip 3hdc cluster; rep from * to next corner.  ((2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in corner space; skip 3hdc cluster; *2 hdc in next space; ch1; skip 3 hdc cluster: rep from * to next corner) three times; sl st to top of beg ch 2.


(40 x 2 hdc clusters along long ends; 32 x 2 hdc clusters along short ends; 4 x ch2 corner spaces; 31 ch1 spaces along short ends; 39 ch1 spaces along long ends)

Row 3:  Sl st to corner ch 2 space.  Ch1, sc in same space; sk 2 hdc; *5 dc in next space; sk 2 hdc; sc in next space; rep from * all around, working corner spaces with only a single crochet); sl st to beg sc.  (16 x 5 dc clusters and 15 sc on short ends; 20 x 5 dc clusters and 19 sc on long ends; 1 sc in each corner space)


Fasten off.  Weave in ends.
