Rustic Rib Fingerless Gloves

To fit Small to Medium/Large; quickly worked, with an optional wristband for a nice snug fit in the cold weather.


Materials:  1 x 100g Skein worsted weight #4 (aran/10ply) yarn (samples were made using Lion Brand Heartland and King Cole Aran) ; 5mm (H/8)hook;  5.5mm (I) hook; yarn needle for sewing in ends; 6 small buttons.
Abbreviations:  sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; beg = beginning; rep = repeat; sp = space; sk = skip; st = stitch; sl st = slip stitch; blo = back loop only; fphdc = front post half double crochet; fpdc = front post double crochet; dfpdc = dropped front post double crochet (see Special Stitches).


Special Stitches:
dfpdc = dropped front post double crochet; work as for a normal front post double crochet, but work the stitch around the stitch 2 rows below.
Gauge:  12 sts and 16 rows on 5mm hook, working half double crochet = 4”.
Sizing:  Women’s  Small; Women’s M/L
Small Circumference above thumb  8” Length 7.5” Wrist 7”
M/L Circumference above thumb 9” Length 8” Wrist 8”
Difficulty:  Intermediate


Pattern Notes: Small and M/L gloves are worked to the same pattern, using 4.5mm for Small and 5mm for M/L.


Always start sc rows with 1st sc in the same st as beg ch1 unless otherwise instructed.


Pattern is written in US terms, a conversion chart is included at the end.

Pattern:


Wristband (make 2):


Row 1:  With 5mm (5.5mm) hook, make a foundation single crochet row of 24 sts.  sl st to join.


(Alternatively, chain 25, sc in 2nd chain from hook and to end.  Sl st to beg sc.)


Rows 2-8:  Ch 1, fphdc in next st and every stitch around; sl st to beg fphdc (24).


Continue to main glove section for Right and Left Glove.

Right Glove:  


Row 1:  Ch1, work 24 sc evenly around  the top edge of the wristband.  Sl st to beg sc.  Do not turn.  (24)
Row 2:  Ch1, sc in every stitch around, sl st to beg sc. (24)
Row 3:  Ch2 (counts as 1 hdc); dfpdc (see Special Stitches); *hdc in next st; dfpdc in next st; rep from * to end.  sl st to top of beg ch2.  (24)
Row 4:  Ch1, sc in same st and every stitch around, sl st to beg sc.  (24)

Button Bands:  (Optional) (Make 2)
Row 1:  With required hook for the size, Ch 6; sc in 2nd ch from hook and to end.  Turn. (5)
Row 2:  Ch1, sc in blo across, sc in last st; turn.  (5)
Rows 3 - 24:  Repeat Row 2
Row 25:  Ch1, sc in same st, sc in next st; ch2, sk 2, sc in last st.  Turn
Row 26:  Ch1, sc in same st; 2 sc in ch2 sp; sc in last 2 sts; turn.
Rows 27 - 29: Repeat Rows 25-26, and Row 25 again
Row 31:  sl st across first sc; sc in ch2 sp, sc in next; sl st over last sc; fasten off and weave in ends.


Sew button bands onto gloves just above the wristband, beginning in the centre of the back of the hand, not the palm, directing the band from left to right on the right glove and right to left on the left glove.  Sew on buttons (I placed 2 on the glove itself and 1 on the folded-around button band, so that the band overlapped and so that it can be adjusted for a nice snug fit.
