Christmas Table Mat




This week's Holiday Blog Hop post belongs to me, and here it is:  A pretty little Christmas Table Mat that you can make very quickly for the holiday season.

Materials:  Any worsted weight yarn #4; 5mm (H/8) hook; yarn needle for weaving in ends


Sample was made using Red Heart Holiday in Green; Stylecraft Special in Lipstick; and Stylecraft Special in White.  You may use Red Heart Holiday in all three colours if you have them available.


Gauge: not important for this item


Finished size:  Approximately 11”-12” diameter, depending on your own tension and the yarn used.


Abbreviations:  sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet; hdc = half double crochet; st/s = stitch/es; beg = beginning; rep = repeat; yo = yarn over; sl st = slip stitch; sp = space; 2 dc cluster - see Special Stitches; picot = see Special Stitches.


Special Stitches:


2dc cluster: yo, insert hook into next st; yo, draw yarn through, yo, draw yarn through 2 loops; yo, insert hook into the same st; yo, draw yarn through, yo, draw yarn through 2 loops, yo, draw through remaining 3 loops.


Picot: ch3, sl st to 3rd ch from hook


Pattern is written in US terms; a conversion chart is included at the end.


Instructions:


With Red:


Row 1:  Make a magic ring (alternatively, ch4, sl st to beg ch to form a ring); ch1, work 8 hdc into ring; sl st to beg hdc. (8 hdc)


Row 2:  Ch1, 2dc cluster in each space around; sl st to beg cluster.  (8 x 2dc clusters)


Fasten of Red and change to Green.


Row 3:  Ch1, (2 x 2dc clusters, ch1) in each space around; sl st to top of first cluster.  (16 clusters; 16 ch1 spaces).  Fasten of Green and change to White.


Row 4:  Sl st to next ch1 space, ch1; *(2dc cluster, Ch1) twice in next sp; (2dc cluster, ch1) in next sp; rep from  * around; sl st to top of beg cluster.    (24 x 2 dc clusters; 24 x ch1 spaces).  Fasten off White and change back to Green.


Row 5:  Sl st to next ch1 space, ch1; *(2dc cluster, ch1) twice in next sp; 1 x 2dc cluster in next 2 spaces; rep from * around; sl st to beg cluster.  (32 x 2 dc clusters; 32 x ch1 spaces).  Fasten off Green and change back to White.


Row 6:  Ch1, dc in same st and in the top of every cluster and every ch1 sp around, sl st to beg dc. (64 dc).  Fasten off White and change back to Red.


Row 7:  Ch1, 2 dc in same stitch; *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st, rep from * to  last 3 sts, dc in next st; 2dc in next st; dc in next st; sl st to beg dc.     (78 dc)


Row 8:  Ch1, (sc hdc dc) in same st; sk 2; *(sc, hdc, dc) in next st; sk 2; rep from * to end. sl st to beg sc.   (25 groups of (sc, hdc, dc))  Fasten off Red and change back to Green.


Row 9:  Ch1, sc in every stitch around. sl st to beg sc. (78 sts).  Fasten off Green and change back to White.


Row 10:  Ch1, sc in same st and next 2 sts, picot, *sc in next 4 sts, picot; rep from * to last 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts; picot on last st, sl st to beg sc.


Fasten off and weave in ends.
